Come and join us in: ‘A BRIDGE TOO FAR?’ THURSDAY July 8 th 2021 from 2 pm Celebrate the easing of CV19 restrictions with a WALK (or jog) for All Saints Church Hartford ALL AGES WELCOME START TIME: Start after lunch anytime between 1400 and 1500. The walk should take around the hour or a little longer. There is no time limit. (Clifford will arrange for a ‘sweep’ by bicycle to be carried out around 1600 to ensure everyone makes it back to the start) THE ROUTE: would be from All Saints Hartford church WESTBOUND via the footpaths as far as Huntingdon Town Bridge and back again. The route uses the pedestrian footbridges through the spinney and across Hartford Meadow to the car park by the rowing club, and onto the town bridge along the existing paths through the riverside gardens (passing the children’s play area) SAFETY: A risk assessment will be made of the route (the footbridges through the spinney/woodland have recently been resurfaced with non-slip material) No motor vehicles should be encountered except in Church Lane. People can walk along the meadow as an alternative. CYCLISTS can be encountered on the route but at slow speed and pedestrians always have priority (Highway Code para 62 p 27)) MOBILITY SCOOTERS? It may be possible for people with mobility scooters to participate. Regular riders will know the capabilities of their machines! The emphasis will be on common sense safety and enjoyment. DOGS: You are welcome to bring your dog as long as he is kept under the handler’s control. DRINKS/REFRESHMENTS will NOT be provided en route, so please   bring   your   own in your rucksack or whatever is convenient. Drinks are important especially if the weather is hot. (But see tea offer at the Rectory below) HOW FAR IS THE DISTANCE? Westbound from Hartford church return to the town bridge is 2.6 miles) If a participant feels that is too far then simply complete what you can and turn back to the church. WHO CAN TAKE PART? All ages walking or jogging (or a bit of both) People could do as long or as short a distance as they choose. HOW MUCH TO ENTER? £5 per person for church funds. The church treasurer will act as check in clerk at the desk in the churchyard. (Children under ?? free) SPONSORSHIP? …. not   needed , but if your family wish to reward your efforts they can add to your funds. Better still: get them to walk with you. TEA at The Rectory (3 Rectory Lane, Wyton PE28 2AQ Revds. Geoff and Catherine Boucher have kindly offered to arrange tea and cakes at The Rectory for participants after the walk. The entry form will have a tick box to indicate if you would like to have tea with Geoff and Catherine. We assume that as most folk will drive to the start it should be easy to drive to the Rectory for tea afterwards. If someone has no transport, contact Clifford on 07512240498 who may be able to give a lift. YOU CAN ENTER ON THE DAY (at desk in the churchyard): There will be a check in desk in the churchyard. Pay £5 at check in and register your name (Children free) WHAT TO WEAR:     PLEASE   WEAR   SOMETHING   BRIGHT   This is for safety and identification. It will also signify that ‘the church is up to something’! It can be a T shirt, sash etc. then we will know who is who! If walking in a group of more than four or so, the leader should wear a high vis jacket. CV19 restrictions : We cannot know in advance what restrictions will be in place in July but all rules must be strictly observed (*The church could be open to visitors with music playing and guides as needed. Chance for live organ recitals?) Inclement Weather: we’ll be guided by the meteorologists and our common sense! If a shower threatens we will press ahead and folk can take waterproofs. If it’s frontal rain we can postpone for a few days. Can I wear FANCY DRESS? YES A lot of the fun on these occasions is derived from people’s kit! The real value of the event will be the enjoyment of meeting up again (but keep 2 metres!) TREASURE HUNT CLUES: Clifford will arrange for a couple of treasure hunt clues along the route. One will require you to reach the town bridge for the answer!
